Setting the record straight: customer service with a smile

Thursday 4th October 2018 | General

Running a record shop is a lot of fun. It’s a chance to share our knowledge and passion for music and film with our customers and we always go out of our way to help our customers find what they are looking for or even inspire them to try something new.  We pride ourselves on being friendly, helpful and open to any challenge our customers present us with.  That’s why it’s so upsetting when we read articles like this one published by Thump.

For many people a trip to their local independent record shop is a treat and a relaxing and fun experience.  We are aware that people who have never visited us before might  find the amount of music and films we have in stock intimidating but rest assured that’s why we are here, day in, day out to help.

So to set the record straight, here is what you can expect if you visit one of our shops whether it’s your first time or you are a regular customer.

YOU WON’T GET ANY SNOBBISHNESS

There’s a misconception that to enter a record shop you need to know your music and know what’s hot and what’s not.  Some people may feel intimidated about stepping through our doors in case they ask for something that isn’t considered ‘cool’ or might not be exactly the right album or artist name.  However, this really is a misconception because we don’t believe in ‘bad’ music or film. In fact we openly celebrate our customers’ wide and varied tastes. If everyone bought the same things we wouldn’t have a business so we guarantee we will never judge you and if you don’t know what you’re looking for exactly we can help you find it or inspire you to check out other artists and films based on what you like.

PLEASE ENGAGE US IN CONVERSATION

We are people too and we love hearing your stories.  Whether it’s an album or film that has inspired you, gig experiences or a film you are seeing at the cinema that night we encourage you to talk to us.  By getting to know you better we can help you to find what you need and build a community based on music, art and a lot of fun.

DON’T WORRY ABOUT A ROUTE

It can be difficult looking for that one record when you are faced with so many to choose from but both our shops are sign posted throughout in alphabetical and genre order, which hopefully negates the need for a planned route.  If in doubt just ask us because we will know where that album or DVD is and we are happy to help you find it.  That’s what we’re here for after all!

ASK FOR ANYTHING

Literally, including a cup of tea (in our Warminster shop) because if you ask us for something and we don’t have it or have not heard of it that gives us a fresh challenge and we love being challenged.  Don’t worry if you only have part of a title or artist name, we can track it down and we are not only able to order items in but also post them to you if you are not always available to pop in.

DON’T PLAN FOR PAIN

Our customers range in age from 8 to 80 and we always try to accommodate mixed mobility to ensure everyone has the opportunity to shop independently. However, if you can’t reach something or need something moved then we are here to help.  Let us take the strain so you can get on with enjoying the music or film you’ve bagged.

We pride ourselves on our customer service so why not come in and put us to the test!
